“ I had a Chinese sister to play cards, do hair, cook, and sew. We were walking arm in arm everywhere!”

Hosting an international camp participant can be a rewarding experience for your entire family.
Through our host family program you will make new friends, learn more about an exciting culture,
and take part in various social and recreational activities. Host families also support a valuable
exchange opportunity, bringing fresh perspectives and inspiration to local youth.
Past camps have brought over 800 Chinese student/teacher participants to Eugene. We encourage you to
participate in the upcoming camp. Please fill out an Application Form
today! For more info, contact Mary Quick at 541.520.1026

STUDENTS
Participants come from top-tier Chinese middle and high schools.
DO THE STUDENTS SPEAK ENGLISH?
Yes. Naturally, student English levels will vary, but most have no difficulty communicating.
WHO CAN APPLY TO HOST?
Any household consisting of two or more persons related by blood, legal adoption or marriage may apply to host. At least one family member must be 25+ years old. At least one adult family member must be a native English speaker.
Previous host families have come in many shapes and sizes: single parents, families with teens, those with no children, young children, empty nesters, and grandparents. There is no such thing as a “typical” host family.
HOW MANY STUDENTS MAY I HOST?
Up to three (3).
WHAT DO I PROVIDE FOR STUDENTS?
- Bed -- Students must have their own bed. They may share a room with a host sibling of the same gender, age 13 years or older. No air beds, mattresses on the floor, or sleeping bags, please.
- Food -- Breakfast & dinner weekdays. Three meals daily on the weekend. Occasional sack lunch.
- Transportation -- Most families drop off and pick up their student. However, GPY also coordinates carpools for families.
- Entertainment & Activities -- We encourage you to include your student in all family activities such as concerts, movies,
ball games, birthday parties, etc.
- Hospitality -- Students will appreciate your warm hospitality and genuine enthusiasm.

EXPENSES
A stipend is offered to cover meals (e.g. at a restaurant with your family), transportation,
laundry and activities (e.g. movie ticket). This means that you should not need to pay out of pocket
to host a student. In addition, students will come with their own spending money for personal expenses
(e.g. international phone card, snacks, etc). Please contact Mary Quick
for more details.
Families may also voluntarily choose to donate all or part of their stipend to
one or more of our non-profit camp sponsors.
- The number of days may vary slightly due to travel arrangements; stipend will be prorated accordingly.
